How to get Level 5 in Writing! Part Two

This is Mrs Sats Marker and we REALLY don’t like her! She doesn’t like giving out level 5’s in writing but we’ll show her!

So, you can write a Level 5 sentence; oh you need to do MUCH more than that to keep Mrs SATs marker happy!

• You need to show you can join an number of sentences together to make sense in a Level 5 paragraph.

Let’s have a go!

Imagine the scene

You are standing outside an old, run-down house in the middle of the woods.

Writing a paragraph to describe
In the story, your character has just opened the door and is describing the scene inside.

• Use long descriptive sentences to give the reader a really clear image of what’s inside.
• Use the senses; touch, smell, sight, sound – even taste if it’s appropriate!
• Make the reader feel they are actually there.
• Pack in a range of WOW words and POWER punctuation (show off those semi colons and brackets – Mrs. SATs Marker LOVES them!)
An example; what would Mrs SATs marker make of this?

The room was dusty and cold it was filled with old books and old things and there was stuff laying around everywhere the curtains were old and broken the windows were smashed up and on the floor there was rats everywhere there was cobwebs on the ceiling and covering everything.

Leave your comments as if you were Mrs SATs Marker!

  1. I would give that a level 1 because there is no punctuation, the adjectives were boring, too many ands, not interesting or exciting and worst of all-i got tired reading it in the middle.

  2. Ha! Is that all you’ve got? I wouldn’t even give that a Level 2 never mind a level 5!

I knew you’d never do it!
